About Christine

Christine Atkins (C F Atkins) has been painting ever since she was a child, and has been a full time professional artist for the past 20 years. She is married with two adult daughters.

She has a Bachelor of Art from the University of Queensland majoring in Fine Art and Art History. Studying the work of the old masters, Christine has taken numerous trips to the galleries of Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples and London.

Christine was born near London, though has lived most of her life in Brisbane, Australia and her paintings convey the tropical flavour of life in Queensland: depictions of cool verandahs and overgrown gardens with their rickety fences and mango, papaw and monstera growing in wild abundance.  Christine loves painting many of the suburban and country aspects of her home state and its houses, people, markets and flowers.  Strong light has always been a feature of Christine’s work and she often paints sunny interiors with the light flooding in through windows, or the winter sunlight streaming through the railings of a northerly verandah.

Not all of Christine’s work is of the great outdoors, she is also well known for her still life subjects. The flowers in those paintings are usually gleaned from her garden or from street trees from suburbs close to her home studio.

Christine is well known as a pastel artist, although she works in most painting media and has won numerous prizes for pieces in Pastel, Oil, and Acrylic.

As a result she has a significant following amongst Queensland art collectors and there is always a strong demand for her paintings. Christine is always keen to hear feedback, comments or answer any questions you may have.
