How 'Favourite Things' was Crafted.

    Step 1

    The collection of objects were carefully arranged in an old bookcase and a spotlight set up.

    Arranging the objects and their shadows took a lot of time. Each object was then sketched in charcoal.

    Beginning with the pottery, the base coats were applied.

    The ellipses were different at each shelf level and needed careful adjustment.

    The lemons were introduced near the end so they didn't shrivel up during the painting.


    Highlights were gradually built up.

    Step 5

    The flowers and a feather were the last to be added when most other things were finished.

    Finally the edges of the case were refreshed. Shadows, nail holes and other distress marks were added.
